I think the answer to that is simple and I have stated it many times before. President Obama is not giving up on his plans for universal, single payer health care and the destruction of private health insurance – a goal he has proudly stated he held in the past. President Obama thought that by going before a joint session of Congress and the American people that he could win over public opinion and actually get support for his health care plans which he has in the past said include a public option and the intent of driving private insurance from the marketplace. For a few days liberals were giddy as support for the plan spiked with Obama picking off a couple percentage points of Americans who really thought that he was telling them something new and that they could now get behind the “new” plan. But as the days have worn on these people have realized that what Obama was peddling was the same snake oil they had tasted before. Continue reading →

The Washington Times this morning has an article featuring Dr. Shirley, a doctor from Jackson, Mississippi, who wants people who do not like the governments current attempts to further socialize our health care system to burn their Medicare cards. The reason? Well, Medicare is socialized medicine and judging by the number of elderly folks showing up at town halls to confront representatives a lot of Americans, as I have often pointed out, are perfectly happy to have their hands in the cookie jar but will fight tooth and nail to keep other people from taking money out of the pot. Dr. Shirley is apparently in favor of of a government run plan to cover the uninsured. And like a good little socialist thinks that people should be allowed to enforce things on other people. In a brochure for the event he invites people who do not have a Medicare card to, “bring Mama’s or Grandmama’s.” Continue reading →

Every day I get a lot of email from liberals who really want socialism to squeeze out the last vestiges of capitalism that exist in America. Our current health care system is far from capitalistic with major portions already under the control of the federal government through programs like Medicare and Medicaid. They are also failing miserably at providing quality care at a reasonable price which is why many doctors turn away patients on both programs. Other large portions of our health care system are so regulated by the States (such as dictating what minimum requirements insurers must provide in order to sell insurance in a state) that there is no doubt that we already have a vastly socialized system.
