Don’t be fooled. John Boehner, the Republican Speaker of the House, is no conservative. He is not a genius. He is not a leader. And he has no intention of solving the problems facing America if he can help it.
The Boehner plan, some nebulous idea that purports to bring America’s fiscal house in order by cutting a few trillion dollars out of tens of trillions in increased spending on top of existing spending, saddles America with debt the likes of which only President Obama and the most hard core Marxists would like. It makes unkeepable promises to cut further spending while increasing the debt limit and raking up bills on the credit cards of our children.
Boehner talks a good game. He may even put on a serious face for the cameras. But beyond the puffery he, like the emperor in the White House, has no clothes.
America needs to slash spending. That slashing needs to happen immediately, not over ten years while politicians hope and pray for windfall revenues to make up the difference. That is the old approach we have been trying for decades without success. No one, not even Boehner, has put forth a proper plan that solves the problems.
The sensible conservatives in Congress have told Boehner that his plan is a nonstarter. There are not the votes to pass it. So Boehner is trying to rework the plan. Bit it too will be just as bad because the Speaker doesn’t have enough intelligence to know the proper way forward.
He is just a politician. And like all politicians, he is over his head in reality. And to make things doubly worse Washington is overflowing with politicians.
Watch this space on Friday. I’ll give you the budget plan America needs.
