Today I received an email from an acquaintance who works for the TSA. I’ve told her that she needs to get out and get a real job, but she hasn’t as of yet listened to my advice. Oh well.
Anyway, she works with the screeners although is not a screener herself. Saying more than that would allow the TSA to possibly know who she is and while her getting fired would be an improvement in her career she would not likely see it that way so I have to protect her identity.
She writes me that as of yesterday she was told by her supervisors to make sure, “under no circumstances”, were there to be any reports from the screeners under her charge of abusiveness towards travelers this Holiday weekend.
Further she added that the TSA warned of “troublemakers” looking to exploit the “wholly endorsed” enchanted pat-down process for those opting out of the full body scanners.
She explained the reasoning for this command as, “obviously necessary because even before the busiest days of the year for airports too many of the enhanced pat downs had been caught on tape and been an embarrassment to the TSA.”. She also stated that, “the TSA though that it would be easier to spot people taking such videos but devices such as iPhones have proven too small for screeners busy with other tasks to see.”
She explains that the TSA fears that if the signed off on procedures are are kept in place in the short run that, “the risk of permanently alienating the traveling public when they viewed standard proceeders with their own eyes. Seeing video of a TSA grope feet is one thing but seeing it in person is another.”
So there you have it from my source in the TSA. They are in damage control mode and trying to control the fire they have already started.
