President Obama On Verge Of Growing Up? Do Not Count On It

They saying I love to use is that even a nut finds a blind squirrel every now and again. Well, the nut in the White House has gotten a nibble at least. While he still doesn’t get it that federal spending does not grow the economy, he is, once again, admitting that tax cuts are a definite plus.

Does this mean that President Obama is on the verge of growing up? Well, don’t count on it. He doesn’t like what he is forced to do. Mark my words. He is doing it with his teeth clenched in anger.

President Obama is a political beast and everything he does is with his political power in mind. So while he is out and about touting how he wants tax breaks and incentives for business, a good thing since businesses only collects the taxes levied on them from the people they sell product to anyway, he is doing it because he is trying to salvage something (i.e. his power) this November. He knows he is going to tick off his virulent, foaming at the mouth, rabid liberal base with this ploy and partially abandoning the socialism they long for. They will call his plan a sop to big business because their understanding of economics even worse than the President’s. But he believes he can pick up more moderate voters by playing the game the way he thinks it needs to be played and swaying them to vote for his fellows in Congress this fall by making this move. After all, he has seen that liberalism isn’t selling well.

One thing that is important to note however is that with his plans for tax credits, etc. for business he is once again treading dangerously close to debunking his own ideology. Liberalism believes people don’t pay enough in taxes and that lowering tax rates is a bad thing for the economy. But time and again when taxes are lowered or tax rebates give we see the effects which is a rush for products affected. We saw this with the home buyer credit where the tax reduction spurred home sales which then fell off a cliff when said reductions expired. We also saw it with the cash for clunkers plan where people rushed to buy cars and then we watched as sales dried up after that credit expired.

Now Obama is back for round three against his will. But he still cannot bring himself to do what must be done which is to reduce permanently and drastically the taxes all Americans pay. All these temporary, targeted cuts show what happens when people are able to keep more of their money and give us a taste of the real answer. Even if the plans are ill-conceived and ultimately amount to government blessed transfer payments rather than real tax cuts for the individual they do provide a glimmer of insight into what would happen if real cuts in taxes were made.

Imagine what would actually happen if instead of such gimmicky plans arbitrarily limited in scope the President and his minions in Congress would actually grow up from the adolescence of liberalism. Imagine what would happen if instead of class warfare, soak the other guy with more than you rhetoric he and they were to adopt a policy of across the board rate cuts and started eliminating hidden and imbedded taxes all Americans pay.
Why, prosperity would be just around the corner I dare say.

I do have to give President Obama credit though for peeking his head out the door and seeing the reality of the real world. Sadly though I don’t expect his foray into the truth and reality to last. If history is any indication at the first opportunity he will duck his head back inside, lock the door and curl up into the fetal position in the corner while muttering softly about how big government is really good and what the American people need. Yes, even if we are too stupid to know it.
