Uh … I Never Endorsed Scott Brown

There seems to be a problem a lot of people are having out there with regards to my stance on Scott Brown who is now the newest Senator from Massachusetts who won the seat during a special election last year.  Reading comprehension is not a problem just for the left, let me tell you.

I have numerous complaints from conservatives and libertarians (really just one in the same) who are accusing me of endorsing another RINO and ripping me up one side and down the other for this common complaint.  The problem with all these people huffing and hyperventilating in emails to me?  Well, I never endorsed Scott Brown, the Republican candidate and now Senator in Massachusetts.  I never told anyone to go vote for the man and I did not stump for him.

I did mention Mr. Brown and the race for the seat once held by Teddy Kennedy a couple times and analyzed its potential fallout depending on whom won on a few occasions.  But that is really about it as far as it goes with regards to Mr. Brown.

My articles about Scott Brown were as follows:

Stupid Police Officers Snub Obama and Dems!” – Where I made no endorsement or suggestion to vote for Mr. Brown but merely noted that the police officers that President Obama said acted, “stupidly,” endorsed him.

Scott Brown Up? Preliminary Reports From Massachusetts” – Where I reported that sources on the ground said that Mr. Brown was up on Election Day over Coakley; but still not endorsement on my part for people to vote for him.

I even expressed extreme skepticism that Mr. Brown would be a strong and reliable conservative stating in on post on my personal site (Liberty Reborn) titled, “Brown Coakley Final Thoughts” that:

“Mr. Brown will have to prove himself as a reliable voice against increasing government and against unconstitutional government. He may do just that on many issues but he will not likely be a strong conservative willing to do the hard work to cut spending and put forth proposals that will cut the nuts off various programs currently in existence which exceed the power of Congress under our Constitution.

What he will be is, more than likely, the latest in a long line of Republicans to say they are conservative and even at times talk the talk and walk just enough of the walk to make liberty loving Americans hope for more. But when it comes to the hard choices, don’t expect him to make them.”

Perhaps some of the confusion by these misguided souls comes from the fact that others who contribute to one of my sites, American Conservative Daily, did indeed endorsed Mr. Brown.  J.R. for example did exactly that.  Also the folks over at OurCountryDeservesBetter.com and the Tea Party Express also energetically endorsed Mr. Brown and I regularly publish their newsletters as well on that site.  But I have been printing those for a while and long before this particular race so I have not changed up what is going on there to help Mr. Brown in any way.

What really annoys me about the emails is that so many people have thought that they needed to warn me about Mr. Brown and that my support for him may be misplaced.  What annoys me is that these people are putting words in my mouth in order to gin up their own need to be offended by something I did not say.  In fact the very second the election was no longer in dispute I started penning my column, “Praise for Scott Brown being reserved,” which warns about waiting for Senator Brown to get an actual record in the federal Congress before acting like he is the ultimate savior of our Republic.

Hey, I worry that Scott Brown will be nothing more than, at best, slightly better than your typical northeast Republican.  So far I think he is proving that to be true in his short time in the Senate.  I know that he is not quite as far left as someone like Olympia Snowe but I also know that alone doesn’t make him a great candidate either.  I also know that he is going to likely disappoint Constitutionalists and conservatives of all stripes at times because he is not likely to stand up and start helping to lay the ground work for repealing the heaps of unconstitutional programs and laws burdening America.  I admit he will be infinitely better than Teddy Kennedy ever was as a Senator and much more lucid as well, although that isn’t too hard to do, and also was a far better choice than Martha Coakley could ever have been.

But a good, reliable conservative voice in the Senate?  As I have previously said, Mr. Brown will have to prove that to me.  And so far he is off to a pretty rocky start.
