Glenn Beck to Run Math on Budget Hacking And Budget Slashing?

Here is an interesting email that I got today.

Hey J.J. just want to let you know that Glenn Beck is going to be following in your footsteps next week! I heard him say today on his radio show that he is going to “do the math” of cutting the budget in half to deal with the debt and the budget and making everyone upset! I don’t know if he has read your series on the Five Unthinkable Options or not because I remember you doing this and going even further but if he has he should at least give you credit for being his inspiration!

I sent an email to Glenn asking him if he was getting the idea to do this from you. I’ll see what he says.

Dear Kimberly,

Thanks for the email. Don’t necessarily give me too much credit for being the first person to run the numbers that I presented in my, what has been an extremely popular, series called the Five Unthinkable Options. It was in Part 4 of 5 that I tackled the cut everything evenly mentality and where the numbers showed we needed a 75% cut in spending on everything, based on 2008 numbers, to eliminate our deficit in 8 years.

Conservatives have been for years talking about how you will never get spending under control unless you make big cuts to the government including entitlement programs. I went a step further than most, but not all, conservatives are willing to with that series of mine and proposed eliminating these entitlements entirely. I think cutting everything equally, when everything is not equal in the eyes of the Constitution, is silly and not a good option akin to the zero tollerance policies of our schools where a kid who make as gun with his fingers at recess is treated the same way as a gangster who brings a semi-auto into school to kill someone. But I am sure Glenn has a point he wants to make just like I did by including it in my series as one of the options.

I am positive that others have presented data like this in the past. And Glenn, being a generally smart guy (even though I question that when he gives air time to the, ”Reverend” Al Sharpton who is an anathema to American liberty) could have come up with this plan on his own. Don’t be too hard on him if you don’t get an answer back that you don’t like about where he got the idea because he may not have gotten it from me.
