Annual Thanksgiving Prayer

Heavenly Father, on this day of thanksgiving we come before humbly and as your children. We give thanks for our soldiers who both home and abroad face unspeakable evil that seeks to enslave all mankind beneath a smothering ideology and heinous laws that treat women as second class persons and unbelievers as worse. We pray for their safety even though we know that as they defend this nation and the peoples of other nations from the onslaught of this evil that some will be taken from us. Others will be wounded both physically and mentally. Father, comfort those that return from war with problems and also the families of those that return and those that do not.

We give thanks for those that in Washington fight other wars on the home front against tyranny and limits to the inalienable rights of all mankind. We pray for success in their struggles against those who at home believe that they have more wisdom than you and that through their will alone they can bring about a better tomorrow under their guidance. We pray that you will touch the hearts and minds of those that are on the opposite side of this struggle to maintain liberty and will make them see the error of their ways.

We give thanks for what we do have even if much has left us in these recent horrible months of economic strife brought on by those in Washington that believed they could create a better world through coercion and downright force of some to provide to others what they had no ability to maintain nor worked to earn and not taken to your commandments. Millions not just in America but all over the world are suffering as they have lost their jobs and the ability to provide for their families. Give them the serenity to know that all such things are temporary and bless them with friends and family who will bring them joy even as times seem darkest.

We know that on this day of thanksgiving we ask for so much. We also know that much is in our own hands and of our own ability to do and undo. Through your divine wisdom and guidance bring us forth into a better world. We wholly except the roles placed before us by you. Give us strength. Give us clarity. And give us conviction to do those things that we must ourselves do while you, oh Heavenly Father, do what you will.

Amen.
