Warmongers Not Happy With Me
Well, ever since publishing my article “Pittsburgh Excluded From Global Warming/Climate Change?” the hate mail from the warmongers has been piling up. Judging by the looks of things, they did not like me charting the actual data from NOAA for my home city over the past decade and showing that temperatures have not been rising.
Of course there are the typical complaints from the left claiming that I purposefully only showed the data that I did in order to hide the, as one particularly nutty one put it, “immense warming” that was happening before hand. No, not really. I just took the data that NOAA had compiled which consisted of Average and Mean temperature values. I did not go further back because the point was to show that “Global Warming” was obviously not happening at the moment despite claims by the left that we are still seeing rising temperatures.
Also, the data from NOAA is not in a great format for manipulation. And by “manipulation” I mean pulling into a spread sheet and calculating averages and such from it. I picked the years where they had already calculated the information.
But to add another log to the fire, and piss the left off even more, I thought that I would poke around a little bit. But first to refresh your memory here is the chart that I plotted with the actual data from NOAA and no “tricks” to hide anything:
From NOAA data
And in case you doubt me, here is a link to the source data. Unlike SOME I do not need to hide my data.
Now, what I did was look around the Internet a little bit and came across this site which is obviously run by someone who has bitten hook line and sinker the Global Warming mantra. How can I make this claim? Just look at some of the links! They link to the Hadley Centre and promote them. In case you do not know the Hadley Centre, they produce maps of Global Warming predictions. They also have a link to Love Your Mother posters (you know as in Mother Earth).
What data do they show for Pittsburgh historically?
Well, take the data that they themselves provide and it comes out to this:
Historic Mean Yearly Temperature: 54.51 F
Historic Average High Temperature: 64.85 F
Historic Average Low Temperature: 44.12 F
Do the math yourself from their own data for the region if you feel the need to confirm.
Now compare to the chart above for the past decade. The average high was only between 59.3 and 62.0 compared to 64.85 F. Lower than the historical average. The average low was only between 41.2 and 43.2 compared to 44.12 F. Again, LOWER than the historical average. As for the mean the average of the last decade was between 50.2 and 52.6 compared to 54.51 F. For a third time, LOWER than the historical average.
So I repeat my original question. If there is Global Warming, has Pittsburgh been unfairly excluded? And if so then why are we being discriminated against? It is hard to say that there is Global Warming when you can look at numbers like these. And these are not even my numbers but numbers from both NOAA and another site that has perhaps questionable motives on the other side of the coin from my opinion. Even that site backs up the opinion of the skeptics.
Then of course there are those pesky emails …
