The State of New York is on the verge of violating the rights of its citizens. I know, big shock there right? The heart of the controversy is the State’s MANDATORY vaccination program for state health care workers requiring vaccination against influenza. They either get the shot or the get fired under regulations passed in August.
The problem here is that the State by doing so is violating the right to the individual’s own person and there is a difference between the State having such a regulation and a private company doing so. Private companies are, after all, private entities and can require their employees to pass whatever standards they want in order to be employed by them as long as such requirements do not require the violation of someone else’s rights. If the company wants to make such a requirement and the employee refuses then the two parties may part company. The State however is strictly prohibited from violating the right to life, property, etc. of any citizen under NOT convicted of a crime which, in my opinion requiring state workers to submit to a vaccination regiment does. The person is sovereign and when the state can claim that just because you work for them that you must allow them to violate your person you have gone down a slippery slope. Because once socialism is in full effect and we all work for the State, there will be no defense against prohibiting them from violating your body for their own ends.
Please note that I am not against vaccinations but I do understand that some people do not want to submit to them. While the side effects of vaccinations are rare, they do happen and people should be at liberty to not be forced into having needles shot into their arms.
