Does Senator Specter Not Want To Speak To Hard Working Pennsylvanians?

Senator Benedict Arlen Specter is out and about holding “Open House Town Meetings” with the public and after yesterday’s less than friendly response to his appearance in Philadelphia where he was repeatedly booed and heckled it is not that hard to see why the rest of his schedule is set up the way it is. At a Sunday meeting you are sure to get a lot of people that have jobs showing up, such as his August 2nd event. However the rest of the schedule is notorious for the way politicians avoid confronting hard working Americans and setting up events at all sorts of hours during the week where they can be assured that those showing up are those that have their hands in the cookie jar somewhere and don’t have a job to attend.

Here is the excerpt of his remaining appearances:

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 9:30am
HACC – Lebanon Campus, Multipurpose Room
735 Cumberland Street
Lebanon, PA 17042

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 3:45pm
Bucknell University, Trout Auditorium
701 Moore Avenue
Lewisburg, PA 17837

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 @ 8:30am
The Penn Stater, President’s Hall 4
215 Innovation Boulevard
State College, PA 16803-6603

Thursday, August 13, 2009 @ 3:00 pm
Belmont Complex
415 Butler Road
Kittanning, PA 16201

Notice the distinct lack of any evening appearances. Notice that they are all during the day when people who have jobs and tend to pay more taxes will be a work.

I have attended several town halls in the past by Specter and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. These events are often jokes. Most of them have the questions screened and any serious question about where the constitutional authority is for many of the programs they support are tossed aside in favor of softballs that the elected official is prepared to answer.

Is it any wonder with how much the public hates the government health care proposal winding through Congress that reprobates like Specter would want to avoid hard working Americans? Somehow though I have a feeling that quite a few of us hard working Americans will take the day off and show up anyway. Then won’t he be surprised!
