“Cash For Clunkers” Another Dud For The Left

Despite being elected to the majority over the past two voting cycles (2006 & 2008), it seems that the policies of the liberal Democrats are not all that popular. Of course, as I keep saying, it continues to beg the question of how these numbnuts keep keep getting elected. Poll after poll shows little support for much of what the left wants to do and the latest is the “Cash for Clunkers” provision which has not won over Americans:

Congress now has sent its “Cash for Clunkers” bill to President Obama to sign into law, but most Americans oppose the plan to encourage people to trade in old cars for new, more fuel-efficient models. Few adults plan to take advantage of the program at this time.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 54% oppose the “Cash for Clunkers” proposal. Thirty-five percent (35%) favor the plan, and 12% are undecided.

The entire program is basically another sop to Obama’s constituency – poor people who tend to drive older cars. The money was set aside to allow this constituency in particular a chance to buy a new car and give liberals something to remind them of come election time so that they will line up like lemmings at the voting booth.

Of course the fact that there is absolutely no authority in the Constitution for any such expenditure of tax payer dollars is not lost on myself. But to bring that up is just to encourage looks of “huh?” from most Americans oblivious to such simple concepts.
