Joe Klein is not as smart as he would like to believe he is. Even while praising, or attempting to praise, a fellow writer in one Charles Krauthammer he had to throw out the sort of nonsensical banter that makes people want to throw away rags that Klein often contributes to like the New York Times. This story has been hitting my email box a lot today so I thought it might be a good idea to comment on it. The government is well known for its belief that your land is their land if they want it and they will take it from you if you dare not to give it to them. Now the government has opened a new chapter in eminent domain abuse by condemning land which they want for a memorial to the victims of Flight 93 and then seizing it because to date they had been unable to acquire the land from the legal land owners. While the government condemning land as an excuse to seize it is not new, the fact that they are seizing it to build a memorial where a tragic event took place does set a dangerous new precedent in my opinion.
