Specter Running Scared – Can’t Take Another Close Call

Conservatives are ecstatic today with the news from Sen. Arlen Specter that he has decided to jump the GOP ship in time for the 2010 midterm elections and run instead as a Democrat in Pennsylvania. Liberal Democrats are jumping for joy too but for different reasons. Conservatives are glad to be rid of a man who was about as conservative as Jeffrey Dahmer was sane, regularly supporting unconstitutional spending and programs without so much as batting an eye or a care in the world. Democrats are happy because Specter switching gives them more power. One side is standing on principle. The other side is just trying to figure out how to gain more control which is pretty much S.O.P. these days.

A recent poll certainly made this move by Specter, who has recently and repeatedly stated that he was not interested in switching parties, easier for him to justify in his own feeble mind. That poll showed Pat Toomey, the man he narrowly defeated in the GOP primary the last time he stood for election, leading 51% to 30% over the incumbent Specter. Specter has recently tried to run ads in the state as well to let everyone know how “great” he has been for Pennsylvania. However that ad attacked Pat Toomey with so many falsehoods and disingenuous innuendos that, according to my sources, Mr. Specter was inundated with angry emails and phone calls by Pennsylvania voters for days. He has also regularly been getting a lot of calls and emails every time a vote comes up in the Senate urging him to take the more conservative position on the matter which he is not necessarily inclined to do. Apparently it has just gotten to be too much for him to hear all this while receiving little or no contact from the other side urging him to support the liberal position on bills to give him cover to vote the way he really wants. He seems to think that switching parties will help change this.

Now, in the unconfirmed rumor department, I have heard from two different sources that the Democrats are being very cautious with Specter in the 2010 primary going even so far as to promise (according to one source) or imply (according to the other) that his opposition during the primaries in the Democrat primary will be either non-existent or incredibly weak. Perhaps a fear that even an average Democrat could defeat Specter? This would apparently set up a showdown between Specter and Toomey in the general election with the full weight of the left wing smear machine behind Specter for the duration and all but guaranteeing Specter another term in Washington to soothe his massive ego for another six years instead of having to retire if the results of the GOP primary happened badly.

Good thing I saved my Toomey yard signs from the last go around. Now I get to dust them off and get ready to rumble.

This incident tells you all you need to know about Mr. Specter. When it looked like Republicans were through supporting him because they decided he was no longer in line with their beliefs and his grasp on power was threatened, he madeg any move he could to hold on to his power. He will be a perfect fit for the party of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Debbie Stabenow, Charles Rangel, and all the rest of the anti-American left.

It will also tell you a lot about the Democrats in Pennsylvania. You know who you are; those Democrats that would never vote for Specter because of the “R” by his name but who will now gleefully pull the lever for him because of the now present “D” like sheep.
