America Decidedly Against Political Attacks On “Torture”

Before I go on an cite the following Rasmussen Report poll saying that 58% of Americans are against politically attacking the former administration over whether or not waterboarding is “torture” (note that Pelosi, et al had no problem when they were indeed informed of the procedure), I want to correct Mr. Rasmussen on one point. President Obama is indeed in favor of probing the issue of prosecuting those involved with making terrorists feel uncomfortable.

WASHINGTON (AP) “” Widening an explosive debate on torture, President Barack Obama on Tuesday opened the possibility of prosecution for Bush-era lawyers who authorized brutal interrogation of terror suspects and suggested Congress might order a full investigation.

Answering a reporter’s question Tuesday, Obama said it would be up to his attorney general to determine whether “those who formulated those legal decisions” behind the interrogation methods should be prosecuted.

That is from the AP. Now for the Rasmussen Report Poll:

President Obama and Senate Democratic leaders are opposed to more investigations of how the Bush administration treated terrorism suspects, and 58% of U.S. voters agree with them. A number of congressional Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are pushing for a wider probe.

I made that X-out just to remind you that that statement is false. And as usual, there is that 25-33% that are just kooky enough to agree with Obama and Congressional Democrats pushing for an investigation over an issue they were well informed about. 28% answered that they wanted investigations because … well … Bill Clinton got himself nearly thrown out of office and the left really still can’t get over that.
