Gallup Poll Demonstrates Poor Understanding of Civics and Also Mixed Bag For Obama

Polls can certainly be illustrative. Take for example this Gallop Poll in which the public was polled on things Obama has done since becoming President.

Seven different actions by Obama were polled, some of which were pushes and something you would expect any President to get high marks on. For example, 76% approved of him naming special envoys to certain countries in the Middle East. Gee, no shock there.

Another topic was “tighening ethics rules for administration officials,” something he got a 76% approval for. Too bad he has not necessarily abided by those rules and suggestions …

74% agreed with “limiting interrogation techniques on prisoners.” Yes, it is time for a “kinder” and “gentler” war on terror I suppose.

Also, 74% approved of him, “instituting higher fuel efficiency standards.” Hmmm … fuel efficiency standards … fuel efficiency standards … I cannot, for the life of me find that anywhere under anyone’s power in the Constitution. Looks like 74% of Americans need a civics refresher before they are considered informed enough to participate in American society.

Even 66% agreed with his signing of the so-called Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which allows people who were “discriminated” against to sue when it comes to pay that they freely chose to accept as fair at the time. Hmm, again no where in the Constitution. Oh … and just because most reports on Lilly omit it, the reason she was paid less than others was because she performed poorly and such was documented in reviews. But the facts be damned.

However Obama is not receiving high marks on closing the Gitmo Resort and Spa for terrorists. Only 44% agree with that. So much for the outcry over Guantanamo Bay that we were told existed.

And lastly, only 35% approved of Obama’s decision to use US tax dollars to fund abortions in foreign countries, an act that seemed to take many Obama supporters (who were unaware of his radical abortion supporting stance) by surprise.

So to summarize, Obama received high marks for doing something every president does, something every president should do (even though he hasn’t followed through), something that makes America a little less safe, something unconstitutional, and something unconstitutional.

Well he’s off to a rocking start!
