Whenever someone tells me that true poverty is rampant in America I have to laugh. Sure, there are a handful of people in America that are destitute but baring some major mental defect they can make a better life for themselves. I laugh though because true poverty is what you see when you visit the remote tribes of Africa, not America’s poorest areas.
I’ve pointed out how being “poor” in America means only one car and having to, perish the thought, rent instead of own, having to squeeze by with only one big screen television and only getting your nails done once a month instead of twice. But now we have a little more evidence about how great the American economy is and how wealthy our citizens, as a whole, are.
The FDA has just approved a new drug that will do something amazing; something so great that everyone will wonder in amazement! Cure cancer? Nope. Cure AIDS? Nope. Solve the puzzle of the common cold? Nope. But if you said give you longer eye lashes you would be right on!
I kid you not:
Boston (ECN) – The FDA has approved a new drug from Allergan Inc. which aims to enhance the appearance of your eyelashes.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given approval to the glaucoma drug and will now be able to be sold for cosmetic purposes.
The brand name for this drug is Latisse and will be used to treat a condition known as hypotrichosis.
The cosmetic use of the drug is going to help people have thicker, darker eyelashes.
Hallelujah! It’s a miracle! Reports say that this new drug will cost about $120 for a 3 month supply.
And this while men and women around the world are waking up wondering if there is going to be any water in the tribal well and if they will find any food to fill their bellies. Next time you think America is so bad remember that it takes a society so far and above the true “poverty” line to even have the time and expendable income to develop such a nonsensical treatment for a non-problem much less buy it.
