It is no secret that there are a lot of so-called “Christians” that hate Mormons with every fiber of their being. American Conservative Daily has even been forced to lower the hammer on such rhetoric, pulling contributor status from Grant Swank because of his incoherent anti-Mormon ramblings. I don’t pull any punches when I say that I find articles of the Mormon Church, such as the secrecy of its founder over how he was inspired to form it and the story of how he did, more than a little too wacky to warrant serious consideration. But I have known enough Mormons to know one thing for certain – they are committed Christians.
Now, Focus On The Family has joined up with the Mormon haters and pulled an interview with Glenn Beck which promoted his, by all valued and reasonable accounts, excellent book “The Christmas Sweater.” Reports WorldNetDaily, this move came after the Mormon haters got up in arms because Beck’s Christianity was not perfectly in line with theirs.
Focus on the Family, the evangelical organization founded by Dr. James Dobson, has removed from its website an interview with former CNN host Glenn Beck following complaints over the politically conservative TV personality’s Mormon faith.
The original article about Beck’s best-selling new book, “The Christmas Sweater,” appeared on the ministry’s CitizenLink website on Dec. 19, but three days later an article published on ChristianNewsWire criticized Focus for promoting a Mormon “as a Christian.”
“While Glenn’s social views are compatible with many Christian views, his beliefs in Mormonism are not,” writes Steve McConkey of Underground Apologetics on ChristianNewsWire. “The CitizenLink story does not mention Beck’s Mormon faith, however the story makes it look as if Beck is a Christian who believes in the essential doctrines of the faith.”
The article has since been pulled from the CitizenLink website.
…
Joel Campbell of Mormon Times reports he called Focus for an explanation and was read the following prepared statement by a receptionist:
“You are correct to note that Mr. Beck is a member of the Mormon church, and that we did not make mention of this fact in our interview with him,” the receptionist said. “We do recognize the deep theological difference between evangelical theology and Mormon theology, and it would have been prudent for us at least to have pointed out these differences. Because of the confusion, we have removed the interview from CitizenLink.”
Come on! Steve McConkey is a twit of the highest order! He is complaining that the article, which was very good, should not have been posted because the exact sect of Christianity that Beck belonged to was not essentially emblazoned across the header of the article? Would it have made Mr. McConkey happy if the article would have been entitled, “Evil Mormon, Who Will Burn In Hell, Writes Inspiring Story About True Meaning Of Christmas”? Perhaps with the sub-headline, “But he is still an evil Mormon who will burn in Hell”? Because that is the impression I get out of this reaction from him and the rest of the anti-Mormon crowd.
For this action, Focus On The Family should be solely discredited as a legitimate source for any news or information.
I fear that the Mormons will become what the Jews were in socialist, liberal fascist Germany during WWII as that same tide rolls over these United States. They seem to be so hated that I fear for them and their future.
As for me, I focus my calls of being being un-Christian on legitimate arguments against them being Christian such as when they support the murder of innocent (and unborn) children and the promoting of taking by force the work and possessions of others as well as other clear violations of simple and well known commandments.
