WPTT Finally Gives Up On Liberal Talk Format

One of my former employers, WPTT AM 1360 here in Pittsburgh who I worked for selling advertising for a very short time, has finally given up on trying to sell liberal talk radio as a format people actually want to listen to. I know, hard to believe that in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where liberalism is king that no one actually wants to listen to liberals talk right?

WPTT will be switching formats to “a financial advice format” according to the Post-Gazette.

According to the station this has absolutely nothing, nothing at all, to do with the fact that the station struggles to crack a 1.5 share every quarter and constantly ranks somewhere around 20th in the Pittsburgh market overall. Riiiiiight ….

This move also means that local liberal moonbat Lynn Cullen will be at least temporarily out of a job. A local “icon” although no one can figure out why exactly, Lynn Cullen is a nice enough lady but, to quote Foghorn Leghorn, “Nice girl, but about as sharp as a sack of wet mice.” She constantly misrepresents issues and facts as liberals are apt to do and certainly would not know the Constitution if it bit her in the ass.

“It has nothing to do with her or her performance or her listenership or her sponsorship,” Serena said. Facing strong competition from AM powerhouse KDKA (1020) and WPGB-FM (104.7), “it was slicing the talk pie pretty thin, and we just found that, quite honestly, it was like trying to push a boulder uphill.”

Cullen confirmed that Serena had told her that her liberal political views had nothing to do with the station’s decision and said she had already received feelers about resuming her talk show elsewhere.
She wouldn’t be specific but said the interest was partly a recognition that she had a loyal audience “of a certain mind-set who are hungry to hear their own voice coming back at them on the radio.”

The station also, as of late featured fellow moonbat’s Thom Hartmann and Alan Colmes but the simple fact of the matter is that no one in Pittsburgh is interested in hearing liberal points of view. The 5,000 watt station is required to power down at sunset and their signal basically only covers small portions of the eastern Pittsburgh suburbs at that time. But during the day their signal is strong enough to reach from Washington, PA, all the way to Greensburg, out to the West Virginia border and as far north as Wexford so it is not like they were not able to reach a large portion of a supposedly liberal area.

The “pie” was not being “sliced pretty thin” when it came to talk radio. It is just an excuse for the Renda’s to ditch a format that no one has any interest in listening to.

What does that say about all these liberals out there? They cannot even stomach to listen to their own ideas.

The station has not announced the new lineup but I hope that Clark Howard will remain (he is currently tape delayed and on starting at 6 PM).

I wish the Tony Renda and Tony Renda, Jr. the best of luck with this new format change and say congratulations for finally, FINALLY, getting off the sinking ship of liberal talk radio.
