Obama In Trouble – Short of 270
Rasmussen’s latest round of polling is putting Obama behind the eight ball which may explain why he is acting so desperate and going on the attack against McCain. To win the presidency a candidate must get 270 votes from the Electoral College but Obama is now short of that goal for the first time.
If one includes states that “lean Democrat”, states that are “likely Democrat” and states that are “safe Democrat” Obama has just 264 Electoral College votes, now 6 shy of the magic total. McCain has just 247 with the same standard.
The three states that are toss ups, Colorado, Nevada and Virginia, have 27 electoral votes. Each of those states went Republican in the last election and despite being technically too close to call are leaning McCain’s way or in the realm of statistical noise.
Colorado – 47% McCain to 45% Obama (Rasmussen), McCain +0.5% (Real Clear Politics Average)
Nevada – 45% McCain to 42% Obama (Rasmussen), McCain +1.3% (Real Clear Politics Average)
Virginia – 46% Obama to 45% McCain (Rasmussen), McCain +0.6% (Real Clear Politics Average)
Expect the candidate of “change” to revert to typical liberal form and working hard to scare Americans into voting for him by pulling out all the typical talking points about how evil Republicans and conservatives and libertarians are and tossing out as many bribes as he can to try to win votes with the taxpayer’s dollars.
