Master Obama – Would Barack Really Be A Jedi?
Comparing political figures to different characters (usually incorrectly) in George Lucas’ Star Wars movies has been common place in the past with some even postulating that Bush was akin to either Emperor Palpatine or Darth Vader.
Lucas draws the latest comparison as Barack Obama the Jedi:
“Star Wars” creator George Lucas used his expert opinion to compare some of his famous characters to famous politicians Tuesday morning.
Lucas, who was on Capitol Hill to testify at the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Telecommunications and the Internet subcommittee hearing on universal service, was totally nonpartisan when it came to President Bush, declining to weigh in on our question: “Who is President Bush more like: Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader?”

Lucas did, however, have one definitive answer: Barack Obama would most certainly be a Jedi. “I would say that’s reasonably obvious,” he said.
Ok, now wait just a minute. I know that you, as a thinking person and a fan of the Star Wars movies, might think that this is totally an unreasonable comparison to make. Barack Obama a Jedi? Laughable at first glance.
Not so fast. Remember that in the Star Wars prequels the Jedi sat in their ivory tower, were often blind to the truth, definately arrogant that they had the answers to everything, could not see the evil that was right under their noses (and which eventually consumed them) and were slow to act to defeat evil once the threat was clear. On second glance, Barack Obama would fit that bill very well.
Remember, the premise of the Star Wars movies was the fall and rebirth of the Jedi order (illustrated by the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader through his son) who brought “balance” to the force. Certainly, Barack Obama could easily be considered unbalanced in his views which center around control, control and more control while ignoring obvious problems and the entire Democratic Party could certainly be considered to have gone to the dark side and is in need of redemption.
So ok, I can agree with Lucas on this one. Barack Obama would certainly be comparable to a Jedi! Don’t know if that’s what he meant or not, but it’s the truth.
