Gov Fast Eddie Rendell Signs Smoking Ban

Well, Governor Fast Eddie Rendell has done it. He has banned a legal substance. How you ask? With the stroke of a pen and the help of some legislators who think they have more power than they really do.

PITTSBURGH — A compromise bill to outlaw smoking in most workplaces and public spaces in Pennsylvania — albeit with several exemptions — was signed into law by Gov. Ed Rendell on Friday.

And why?

Rendell has advocated a smoking ban as a way to reduce health care costs, although he admits he would have rather put his name on a stronger piece of legislation than the one he signed just after noon in Ambler.

Well gee there Eddie, if government wasn’t in the business of providing health care like it should not be then what would you care? People could then decide if they wanted to pay more for their health care and smoke!

This guy has it right:

“I think the government has no business regulating a legal product,” said Marc Adams, who works at Bloom Cigar on the South Side.

This is the same way prohibition started all those years ago. And we know how it ended – in near revolution with states retreating away from it so fast that they were tripping over themselves to get out of the way of the mobs with the pitchforks and torches.

I repeat my previous declaration. Land of the Free Studios, Inc. will proudly not abide by any smoking ban in our offices. Now excuse me while I have a nice cigar and dare the Gestapo to come and try and stop me.

That click of the slide on my .40 cal being cocked that you hear when you are coming up the stairs is the only warning you will get to cease and desist.

This ban is no doubt headed for court so let’s see how things play out and what tricks the Rendell administration and his useful idiots will try to keep it valild.
