Lazy Americans Don’t Want $1,100 A Week?

It’s amazing what you can find out by reading news stories. Even when those stories are talking about how corporate farms are moving crops to Mexico because they are able to find labor cheaper there and not have to worry about having their illegal employees deported.

IRAPUATO, Mexico - Antonio Martinez used to pay smugglers thousands of dollars each year to sneak him into the United States to manage farm crews. Now, the work comes to him.
Supervising lettuce pickers in central Mexico, Martinez earns just half of the $1,100 a week he made in the U.S. But the job has its advantages, including working without fear of immigration raids.

Wait, he was making $1,100 per week? Ok, so it’s seasonal work and he’s not working all year (at least not in the same place but probably moves around) but that is on par with what I make as a degreed engineer. And you’re telling me that we can’t find Americans to work for that rate?

Close the welfare offices and government funded housing projects and get those living on both out there making this kind of money for at least a third or half of the year. Then they can work the rest of the year at McDonalds or something. In the long run they’ll make more and have a higher standard of living than their government check provides. Sure they’ll have to work and migrate but BOO FREAKING HOO!  This is America!
