No “Illegitimacy” For Obama Without Michigan and Florida Delegates
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that someone (probably Rush Limbaugh) must have said something about Barack Obama being an “illegitimate” nominee if he wins the nomination and the votes in Florida and Michigan are not counted at the Democratic Party’s Convention. I come to this conclusion based on the rather large number of emails over the past couple days either echoing this sentiment or asking my opinion on it that only happens when someone like Limbaugh or Hannity speaks about something.
Ok, listen, the facts are the facts here. The Democrats set rules. Some states violated those rules. Those states were punished according to the rules.
The Democratic Party is a private organization. They have the right to run their organization as they see fit. There is no issue of “disenfranchisement” or “illegitimacy” if Michigan’s and Florida’s delegates are not seated. There is no “constitutional” issue to be considered either. The party has the right to nominate its candidate as it sees fit.
If you don’t like they way they do it, then don’t belong to the party. End of story.
