Supplemental War Funding Bill Anything But

Liberals in Washington are at it again, loading up a war funding bill with every type of pork under the sun.

This is the problem in Washington and with our bureaucrats in that they cannot produce a clean bill that actually does what the title says it will do. Need money to fund the military? Ok but only if you tack on money for these special interests respond liberals. Funding for the post office? Ok, but only if you let liberals load it up with subsidies for farmers and tax breaks for wind farms.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Despite numerous veto threats, senators in both parties have loaded up President Bush’s war funding bill with a grab bag of domestic programs, including work permits for immigrant farm labor and heating subsidies for the poor.

The Senate was scheduled to begin debate on the measure Tuesday, just days after a key panel added more about $28 billion to Bush’s budget request for this year and next, with almost $50 billion more for a big expansion of veterans benefits under the GI Bill over 2010-2018.

The new GI Bill and Democratic priorities like extending unemployment benefits are simply the big-ticket add-ons, both of which have drawn veto threats. There’s also $50 million to track down child predators, $400 million to help rural schools and $350 million fight western wildfires, just for starters.

The question is why? Are you liberals too afraid to have all your spending scrutinized by having it voted on individually? Is the only way you can get it passed is to bride other Congressmen with their own unconstitutional spending? Are you really that afraid of its unconstitutional nature pointed out? Or are you just more concerned with greasing the palm of your special interest buddies?

All this extra pork spending (the vast, vast, vast majority of which is unconstitutional) should not be allowed to be attached to Bills. Bills should be clean in as much as they address one topic and only constitutional topics.

However right now in Washington jsut sound the dinner bell and all the little piggies scramble for the trough.
