Low PA Republican Turnout Gives Paulbots Another False Talking Point

The Source provided a heads up on the strategy of Ron Paul supporters in Pennsylvania last week. In his (or her) email to me he (or she) said, “The strategy of those supporting Ron Paul in PA is simple. Count on incredibly low Republican turnout to allow a large percentage of the votes to go to Ron Paul. They are counting on about 20%.”

I never doubted The Source, but didn’t want to publish his (or her) email because I didn’t want to give any inclination that some of their emails had been intercepted and made their way into the hands of The Source.  We know that we have certain people from the Ron Paul camp watching this site and didn’t want to let them know their plans were already known.

And with Tuesday’s primary done and over what did we see? We say Ron Paul get 16%. Less than was hoped for according to The Source but seemingly impressive for a man who is supposedly not running anymore. I even received a few of the obligatory emails from Ron Paul supporters touting how great their candidate did … until you look at the actual numbers.

On the Republican side, between McCain, Paul and the Huckster, there were only 804,846 votes cast; 128,188 went for Ron Paul. In Pennsylvania however there are currently (as of April 17, 2008) 3,186,057 registered Republicans – most of whom did not go to the polls yesterday because there really was nothing at all to decided in the election.

Doing the math that means Ron Paul, despite the expensive radio spots, yard signs, etc. whipped up a whopping 4% support. Gee, right about where he has been all along. And if there had been something at stake and Republicans motivated to go to the polls, that is probably about where he would have finished.

John McCain didn’t even run a single ad that I heard or saw and didn’t even have a single yard sign that I saw while the Ron Paul signs were everywhere. And still he couldn’t get more than 4% of the PA Republicans to turn out?

On a side note; yes I did go to the polls yesterday. No I didn’t vote for the liberal, anti-first amendment John McCain. No I didn’t vote for isolationist, earmark requesting Ron Paul. No I didn’t vote for the shucking and jiving, pro-illegal Huckabee. No I wasn’t part of Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos”. But I did vote.
