Blessed Are the Peacemakers

A LIBERTY REBORN EXLUSIVE

Blessed are the peacemakers, especially those that did not return. Memorial Day is the day we honor those that died in battle fighting not just for Americans, but for all people who yearn to have the blessings of liberty.

To call them “heroes” does not do them jsutice. They are so much more. They deserve a name that has not yet been created or spoken and worthy of their sacrifice. This Memorial Day, like all Memorial Days past and yet to come we remember them in the hopes of the day when that word is first spoken.

For these are men and women whose blood has been spilled from the shores of Tripoli, to the beaches of Normandy, to the sands of Iwo Jima, to the jungles of Viet Nam, to the moutnains of Afghanistan, to the deserts of Iraq. Yes, they are more than heroes.

Blessed are they for they were not only willing to put their lives on the line but actually lost their lives.

Blessed are they for their end did not always come swift and painless while staring into the eyes of the enemy.

Blessed are they for they knew that in war some will always die and knew that it could very well be them.

Blessed are they because they gave their lives so that others may live on.

Aristole once said, “we make war so that we may live in peace”; that we fight in order to gain peace worthy of being had. Sure we could chose not to fight and allow an unkind master to enslave us. But that is a peace not worth having for there is no liberty. The warriors are the true peacemakers; when their cause is just. Hope for liberty is always just.

But peace is always short lived. Evil always rears its ugly and immortal head.

Plato once said, “only the dead have seen the end of war”; that there will always be war because there will always be a need to defend liberty from others. Those that we remember on this Memorial Day have certainly seen an end to their own war. And they are in a far better place. And we will not forget their sacrifices.

They are gone. They are not forgotten. This Memmorial Day we remember the most blessed of all the peacemakers.
