Public Religious Displays Ok Now?
A LIBERTY REBORN EXLUSIVE
Now, please remember that the Kansas City International Airport is a public place bought and paid for (and maintained) by public funds. (http://www.bloggernews.net/16384). It is just like the local courthouse or city square where the secular leftists have spent a good amount of time bitching and moaning about anyone who wants to put up a nativity scene at Christmas time or a monument of the ever sinister Ten Commandments. And don’t even think about putting a cross at a war memorial. I’m warning you! Don’t even think about it!
Within moments of such dastardly thing being sniffed out by zealous blood hounds the shouts of “separation of church and state” usually echo from sea to shining sea. This is then typically followed by belly aching, hand wringing and great consternation. Then there are usually damning press releases, scathing denunciations and special councils called for to try and rectify the injustice that exists in the eyes of some at the mere mention of religion. So to say that I find it odd that nary a peep has been heard in this instance about protecting us all from religion promoted by the government would be an understatement.
Some might say that there is a world of difference between providing foot washing stations for Muslim cabbies and putting up a manger scene complete with baby Jesus. But is there really? Not in reality because both serve the purpose of helping to promote the religious beliefs and facilitate the religious practices of those that participate in their respective religions. The foot washing supposedly enables the Muslims to pray properly. The manger scene allows Christians to celebrate and acknowledge the birth of Christ.
But the Kansas City Airport is not the only place where those who would defend us seem to be ok with government promoting religious practices as of now. Minneapolis Community and Technical College made the same sort of gesture towards our Muslim friends. Mind you, this is while colleges like William and Mary are having fainting episodes over a cross existing in a chapel of all places! Oh! The vapors! Someone fetch a couch!
So to see if this is just my imagination or a real about face I have spent some time perusing some of the normal organizations that are normally the “first responders” any time government even thinks about promoting religion in public. But what I have not seen is the planes being scrambled. I have not seen the typical left wing wordsmiths who make their livings twisting the Constitution being called up. And I have not seen legions of lawyers with court orders in hand being hot dropped on either of these places. Organizations from the ACLU to Americans United for the Separation of Church and State are not plastering their websites with outrage over these actions being undertaken nor have I seen anything in any of their emails that I subscribe to just to keep an eye on them.
So am I correct to assume that the answer is an affirmative to the question I opened with? Hallelujah! They have finally seen the light! Praise be to God!
Don’t bet on it.
I’m going to take the same stance on the foot washing stations as I do on menorahs at Chanukah or manger scenes at Christmas. That stance is that if the people of a community want to promote their religion then they should be allowed to as long as in so doing they are not trampling on other people’s rights. Foot washing stations for Muslim cabbies are ok with me just like it is ok with me when employers (and even the government) respect the beliefs of observant Christians to not work on Sundays.
But if any of them decide that part of their religious practices includes flying planes into buildings to “kill the infidel” then I’m going to have to draw the line there. Heck, I’ll even go further and draw the line at a bunch of little Muslim troublemakers who think that they have a right to board a plane and act like they are going to hijack it even if their only goal is to get kicked off the flight in order to file a frivolous lawsuit.
But as long as you don’t want to kill people because they don’t subscribe to your religion, persecute women because they are women and other such nonsense and believe in the unalienable rights of man go ahead and wash your feet and pray five times a day to Mecca.
I do have a question however. If these foot washing stations were so necessary for Muslims to practice their religion what have they been doing up until now? Have they all been living in sin? Have they been violating the basic tenants of their faith? Somehow I don’t buy it.
And what if Christians would like to use the foot wash? Will they be allowed? Some Christians also practice the ritual of foot washing. Or will they be prohibited from entering because they are “infidels”? Will there be a burly Muslim with a curved swords standing guard to prevent non-Muslims from entering? And if that is the case will the airport provide separate facilities for Lutherans and other Christians who participate in this ritual as well?
And what about Christians who are flying on Sunday and might miss communion at their church? Will the airport provide special accommodations for them? Will there now be bread and wine available in special rooms for them?
And what about Catholics and other faiths that perform the ritual Stations of the Cross? Will airports now install the all the necessary fixtures for them to keep up their religious practices?
And what about Bibles? Can we now expect airports to place Bibles under every seat in the terminal just so any Christian who wants to pray and read scripture may do so? And of course we’ll have to have all versions available too since there are so many.
And you know what? While we are providing Bibles it only seems reasonable that we should provide Bible Study courses as well for those Christians who want to learn and discuss their faith with others.
And while we’re providing Bibles, how about Torah’s for our Jewish friends? We wouldn’t want to leave them out.
And how about Confessionals for the sinner on the go? Will we be seeing them at the Kansas City International Airport any time soon?
And let’s not forget about Holy Water. I think that we need to have basins of Holy Water available at the airport as well.
Or are we just going to make accommodations to the Muslims? And if so why?
